RC Surfboards (Ricky Carroll)
Ricky Carroll is one of the most accomplished shapers in the country as well as an awarded waterman. Ricky got his start competing on the east coast in surfing and windsurf events where he won multiple categories at a young age. He later started shaping boards (1st board at age 13) and working at the Natural Art Factory in Florida. In 1975, at age 15, he qualified for the ESA Championships. Over the following 10 years he won multiple divisions before moving on to compete for the USA surf team at the ISA world surfing championships in Australia. Ricky turned pro in 1983 and competed in the ASP Longboard division for over 7 years.
Ricky opened his own shaping & glassing factory (R&D Surf) in Rockledge Florida, and has worked with many pros over the years, designing, refining, and shaping boards for the best in our sport. If you’re a seasoned surfer, you will certainly be impressed with his past clients… C.J. Hobgood, Bonga Perkins, Danny Melhado, Damien Hobgood, Cheyne Horan, Larry Bertelmann, Rachel Presti, Daisy Nerida Valdez, Justin Quintal, and many, many more.
As a young man Ricky collected surfing titles and trophies, but in recent years he’s added many shaping accolades including, but certainly not limited to, the 2007 “Tribute to the Masters Shape off” in San Diego… He followed up winning this title the following 3 years. Ricky’s talent was later displayed by winning the Surf Expo “Block Off Foam Challenge” multiple years and is now the head judge at the Florida Shape Off.
Ricky Carroll is now a member of the East Coast Surf Hall of Fame and a true legend in our sport. Today Ricky shapes and concentrates on giving back to the sport that gave him so much. Ricky is active through funding, volunteering, and sponsorships of the Surf Rider Foundation, ESA, and local schools and other organizations in Florida.
