Surfboard Repair Ocean Isle Beach
How do surfboard dings happen and why should they be fixed?
There are many ways to get dings in your surf boards, paddle boards and even skim boards. It doesn't take much. For example:
I've also seen where someone has laid their board on the beach on top of shells or stones. Most the time you won't even know where it happen. One time I got hit in the head with my SUP board and put a big ding on my rail. Go figure.
Dings happen. It doesn't matter who you are, its part of the culture and you just accept it.
- Loading your board in your vehicle
- Taking the board off your vehicle
- In the water you could have hit the sandy bottom or a shell
- Maybe someone ran into you or you into them

Now, why should you have your dings repaired?
We all know that surf boards or stand up paddle boards (SUP) and even skim boards are not cheap to replace. That's the number one answer.
When you ding your board or put a crack in it, it could easily start taking in water. Foam and water don't mix well together and the foam needs to dry out before fixing. If the foam has water damage, the bad foam has to be replaced with good foam which can drive your repair cost up.
That's why you should always check your surfboard, paddle board, and skim board before and after every session. If it's taking in water, the issue quickly gets worse.
You can fix your own dings if you know how and want to spend the money on the stuff that you need to fix it the right way. Some people use duct tape to cover the ding, which will work for a short period of time. I don't recommend leaving duct tape on your board as your permanent fix because it will get worse.
Some people buy a ding repair kit which is a good thing to have and you can fix your own board. If you decide to buy and carry a ding repair kit, make sure you get the right kit for your board.
If you have a surfboard or paddle board you need to know if it is Poly Foam or EPS Foam. To make it easy for you, just buy the Epoxy Kit which will work on either type of surf board or paddle board.
Word of Caution: Do Not Use a Poly Kit on EPS Foam - it will melt the EPS foam right before your eyes. Not a pretty sight.
